A taste of Thainess

I’ve always loved Thai food and I knew a lot of  my 9 days in Thailand would be about it. It was and how! From breakfast to dinner to street food to homemade to restaurants, we did it (almost) the Thai way.

Our first brunch in Bangkok, the morning we land –

Minced pork with soft bean curd and crispy basil served with steamed rice

I love how greasy Thai food can be without it landing in your stomach with a thud. Basil leaves were a big surprise to me, never eaten that before in Thai food; it was a great addition to the pork and the soft bean curd which lived up to its description! This was a relaxed meal in a quiet residential bylane of Sathorn at a home-run joint. Great way to start the trip!

Dinner was the quintissential street food of Thailand! Walking out of the Asiatique on Charoen Krung road, there were several reasonably priced and tasty options.

Morning glory with fried omelette on steamed rice

I didn’t find the flavour of morning glory to be very distinctive, so I gave it a miss in the other meals to come. I loved the softness of the omelette on the inside with its fried crispiness on the outside!

Thai tea for breakfast

Since this was the only cup of thai tea I had on the trip or have ever had, i can’t say how authentic it was, but it was surely different from any other tea I’ve ever had. It was orangy in colour to begin with and extremely creamy and buttery in taste and texture. It had a firm and understated flavour of tea which quite suited my palate. I gulped this cup down without sugar and a ham n cheese bun.
